Raised Panel

Create raised panels for cabinet doors, frame-and-panel furniture, and architectural paneling with a raised-panel bit. The cutter forms a fillet to delineate the raised field, a shaped band around the field. Bits with an undercutter make an integral tongue to fit the panel groove in the rail and stile. The profile contour and the reveal width varies and height adjustments make for a different look. All tools have 1/2" shanks. Horizontal panel bits can make arched door and must be used in a table-mounted 3+ horsepower router and run at reduced speed. Multiple passes are recommended.

Raised panels are possible with a low-horsepower, fixed speed router using vertical raised panel bits. You must do the work on a router table, with the work on edge, braced against the fence. Arched or curved shapes (i.e.: “cathedral” door panels) cannot be routed with vertical panel raisers. For safety and the best cut finish, several passes are recommended.

Style and panel bits are designed to give the appearance of a raised panel door in MDF or solid panels. One pass is all that is needed for a simple raised panel look using one of the plunge form profiles.
