🔩 Lock Miter Router Bits offer a fast, precise way to create strong, seamless corner joints at 22.5°, 45°, and 90° angles. Ideal for projects that demand durability and professional finish, including:

  • 📦 Boxes and drawer construction
  • 🖼️ Picture frames and cabinet facings
  • 🏛️ Columns, hollow beams, and decorative trim

🔧 What It Does

  • Creates tongue-and-groove profiles: The bit cuts complementary profiles on two mating pieces so they lock together at a perfect right angle.
  • Conceals end grain: The joint hides raw edges for a clean, professional look.
  • Self-aligning: Once routed correctly, the joint naturally aligns during assembly, making glue-ups easier.

🛠️ Setup Tips

  • Use a router table for precision—handheld routing is not recommended.
  • Align the bit center with the center of your stock thickness.
  • Rout one piece flat on the table, and the other vertically against the fence.
  • Always make test cuts on scrap wood to dial in the perfect fit.

✅ Advantages

  • Stronger than standard miter joints due to increased glue surface and mechanical lock.
  • Faster assembly with fewer clamps needed.
  • Professional finish with seamless corners.

It’s often called a “trick bit” because of the geometric genius behind its design.

LOCK MITER ROUTER BITS

good but a pain to set up/

We couldn't agree more. We try to tell customers that this is the hardest bit to set up. And setup blocks only work if they are EXACTLY the same thickness as your material. We have a DVD available and also our instructions at. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0804/2313/files/Lock_Miter_Instruction.pdf?16509160906317785014.

Lock Mitre WL1420-1

First time I used this bit I was dead on the setup. When using pine I got some tear out on the inner lock finger but this did not affect the joint. I used Gorilla wood glue on two 9 inch pieces, let dry for 24 hrs. and tried to break the joint. I couldn't break it. No tear out using Poplar on my next project and NO ugly end grain and joints were a perfect 90 degrees. Very happy to add this router bit to my collection of bits.
