Many people are unaware that crown molding comes in three different spring angles. The spring angle is the "tilt" at which the molding sits on the wall to better show off the detail. For example, on a mantel or low ceiling, you want the molding to tilt up towards your eye. Crown molding set into a high ceiling looks best when tilted down more.
